I remember thinking this was never going to get done.
I remember thinking that even if this got finished, there’s no audience for it.
I remember dreading the end because we were going to have to create an ending sequence with Eva and Hailey on screen at the same time, with no way to create those videos in Grok, and no guarantees that we could get the footage we needed out of other models.
I remember finishing it and realizing that we needed to go back and add additional scenes for context and plot purposes.
And I remember at some point I looked at our page on Reddit and we had passed the 1,000 followers mark.
And I thought about that a lot while I was working on Retro Rabbits.
Because I had so many nights where I just wanted to sleep and not think about anything. Where I just wanted to let this go and move on.
And I also had a lot of mornings where I would wake up and Eva and Hailey were the first people I thought about.
And somewhere out there were 1,000 people who cared enough to follow our page and wait to see what we did next.
That was a lot of people who cared – on some level – about what we were doing.
Every time we posted a video, people would like and comment on it. Sure, sometimes we got thousands of views; sometimes we got less than a hundred – but there were people who cared enough to say something.
There were people who didn’t let us slip into the void.
And I didn’t want to waste that.
And I guess that’s why that final image of Eva and Hailey resonated with me – because I’ve lived long enough to know that love doesn’t last forever.
Because a lot of the time you’re fighting against yourself – fighting against who you are and who you could be – fighting against what people think you are.
So when you have that moment where you feel loved – you want to hold on and not let go. Because you know it won’t always be this way.
And that’s ultimately what Retro Rabbits is about: it’s a silly little love story about two beautiful girls who attract monsters – and that feeling of not wanting to let go – not wanting the dream to end.
