We did this once before, actually:

You can see the full context here:

90s Channel Surfing Part 04

Originally this started with a more artistic approach:

An illustration of a wall with biomechanical technology and female bodies fused to the wall

S

The resulting images were visually striking but a bit too abstract.

To make this commercial we needed to move beyond pixels and create Nova in the flesh:

A highly realistic and detailed cinematic portrait with vibrant colors, dramatic lighting, Kodachrome film grain aesthetic, shot in an 85mm camera. a nude athletic female with straight blue hair with bangs is holding a laser katana and standing in front of a wall of biomechanical technology and monsters fused to the wall and reaching out towards her and fusing her body with the same biomechanical technology

The results looked a lot better than I was expecting. For reference, this was on Grok’s Speed setting.

All of the images used for Retro Rabbits Episode 1 were generated using the Speed setting, with the exception of Hailey’s original image, which was generated using the Quality setting originally. The reason for that was to try and maintain consistency in terms of what people in the Retro Rabbits series looked like, as Quality has a tendency to produce hyper-realistic images that, ironically, can look a bit fake.

It is probably a missed opportunity because that prompt on the Quality setting looks gorgeous:

There may be an in-universe Shadow Doll film at some point where we take advantage of the quality setting.

Once we had the base image for Nova, we did a few edits to create some live action scenes:

Create a new image with the same visual aesthetic and level of detail, using the reference image. The girl is standing on a rooftop at sunset using her laser katana to fight a security team of men in black suits and military robots. In the background a futuristic cyberpunk cityscape is visible.

Create a new image with the same visual aesthetic and level of detail, using the reference image. The girl standing with her back to the camera and holding her laser katana. In front of her, a massive biomechanical monster with a skull face is rising out of a crater in a dirty and chaotic underground research laboratory. Dominant blue and pink color tones

Create a new image with the same visual aesthetic and level of detail, using the reference image. Wide shot of the girl jumping in the air and holding the laser katana over her head as she jumps towards a security officer in a mech suit. In the background is the bombed out remains of a corporate office building. Dominant red and blue color tones. Low quality 1980s practical effects aesthetic.

Create a new image with the same visual aesthetic and level of detail, using the reference image. The girl standing with her back to the camera and holding her laser katana. In front of her, a massive biomechanical brain which is connected to a giant computer system by tubes and wires. Dominant orange and blue color tones

Not all the videos generated were used in the final commercial, and even the videos that were used were heavily cut or edited.

These are the raw versions of the videos:

No prompt

The camera pulls out slowly as the monsters close in on her. Then her sword begins to glow with intense light and the circuitry on her body lights up. no music

No prompt

No prompt.

the camera pulls out slowly as she looks up at the monster and says, “You know, I used to love you. but you got real ugly.” no music.

While the unprompted Grok videos are a bit over the top, the live action part of the commercial was pretty easy to cut together. The gameplay footage on the other hand was a nightmare…
